Successful Vocabulary Is Our Next Topic :)
Definition - 'the body of words used in a particular language' or 'a range of artistic or stylistic forms, techniques, or movements.'
There are a range of words in the Oxford Dictionary, that really need to be unlearnt if you want to get anywhere far in life. Below are the ones I've so far identified & if I find anymore I will add them as I build the blog.
Lets start with an easy one, one we've all heard people not to use - 'Can't' - I absolutely hate people using that word around me when I know there is every possibility it can be done. Can't is a contraction word. It's not like an adjective, verb or noun. Its a none doing word. Doers do not use the word 'can't' so please start with removing this one from your vocabulary. Everything in life (to an extent) can be done, they're done by the people who believe and focus on doing them. Maybe 'shouldn't' could be used, if what you're saying 'can't be done is morally or ethically incorrect to do, but the word can't isn't real, not when it comes to achievements. I believe it was a word created to make people think things were impossible. I don't give up on anything ever, even when people think I maybe should, I don't. Stop using it.
Another is 'Try' - this one gives me a headache. Let's look at simple life achievements, did you ever try at something? Really, think about it? I personally believe that try, is a greatly negative word used instead of attempt. It literally means attempt, so I have no idea why they created a short shitty word for it. You don't try at something, you either do it or you don't. I prefer the word attempt, it's more fitting to my belief that I will succeed & I will because I don't give up. If my attempt is unsuccessful, I can attempt to do it again. You hear people say things like 'nice try'. If somebody said 'nice attempt' then you would possibly be more inclined to take it as a positive statement and attempt it again. If you don't succeed at your attempt, brush yourself off and go again. Lets say it like this - Thomas Edison didn't try to make a lightbulb and fail 3000 times, he made around 3000 good attempts and his last attempt was successful & made him one of the most famous inventors of all time. Imagine if he had to hear his friend say 'nice try'. Another example is with food, you may be unfamiliar with a type of food, if somebody said 'try this', your mind automatically overthink it - however, if somebody say's 'attempt to like this', its more positive, your mind is less open to judgement that it won't be nice.
Last one for now - is 'Why' - Any question that starts with 'why', is often an emotion question. It's not a fact finding question like, 'how' or 'can' or ' 'will' or 'who' are fact finding questions. But 'why' is an emotional question. Humans brains act backwards when we hear the question 'why?' We ask ourselves the question & feel we have a level of responsibility over the subject. So, for instance, if something happens that you didn't expect & somebody asked 'why' it happened, the responsibility has been reverted onto the person who was asked the question. A better word is 'how did it happen', that way a fact can be revelated from the subject question & progress can be made. If something asks you why, they are likely too dim to understand that things happen in life, that can't be changed & they are most likely trying to revert responsibility for you to give the smart answer. Remove why from your vocabulary. Its a blame game word basically. My favourite response to somebody asking me 'Why?' is 'How do you mean?' It will reflect the emotion with a fact finding question, politely.
My main point to all of this, is that vocabulary style is very much down to the individual. Police officers sound like police officers, lawyers sound like lawyers - if you want to be successful, then you need to start sounding it.
There will be more added to this, I had a brain wave of an idea to explain another concept of phrases that can't be used, but my brain could not remember when I finished writing this section :) I will be back with more.
